Shelby Lohrman's Review of the Latest Metal Ultimate Pieces

Posted by Natali Ramos on

The Bobby Fischer Metal Ultimate Chess Set changed my opinion on metal chess pieces. I was always a fan of the wood UCP in Rosewood or Paduk.  Until now, I never had the desire to play with metal chess pieces.  Made for the tournament chess player who loves their Ultimate Chess Pieces but is seeking a classier set for playing at home. Patterned on the famous UCP design, the pieces are a hefty weight silver and black anodized metal set. Looks nice, plays nice and weighs in at a whopping 9.85 lbs!  The bottoms have thick billiard black felt, and the bases will demand a...

Written by Evan Rabin In May, I kicked off a Premier Chess Program at a middle school at an impoverished neighborhood in Brownsville, New York by asking “Why Play Chess?” I received some typical answers, including “It’s Fun.”, “It helps you think.” and “Competition is fun.” They were shocked how I explained the plastic pieces could help them get into high school, college and a good career. Chess has influenced me to become a critical thinker, conduct enterprise sales at Oracle and Rapid7, cofound a sales outsourcing startup Pillar Sales and ultimately form Premier Chess.  Premier Chess teaches life lessons to...

Chess Mom to Playing in the World Open

Posted by Shelby Lohrman on

Written by Molly Coy Find Molly on Facebook   Nine years ago, I became a Chess Mom. In the future, I hope to write about my journey to USCF Tournament Director, Chess Coach, Owner of A Tale Of Two Kings, but this blog will focus on where my most recent stop on the journey of Chess Mom has taken me. That is as a player in the 2018 World Open in Philadelphia, PA! I had played in a few tournaments a couple years ago, but that was solely to get a rating to promote my tournament director status. This time,...
