This mousepad chess mat measures 20 x 20 inches and is .07 inch thick and conforms to World FIDE and United States Chess Federation tournament regulation standards. Widely used alphanumeric notation is included along the sides of the board to record a player's moves. Mouse pad chess boards are quickly becoming a favorite among chess enthusiasts because they have a soft surface with a thicker board than a vinyl or silicone chess mat, they always lay flat, and they do not slide around due to the grippy bottom. Because the board doesn't slide around during play, this type of board is preferred by fast chess players for rapid chess, blitz chess, and bullet chess when less time than normal tournament play is allotted to the players.Time is shorter, chess moves are rapid, and a board that slides can send the chess pieces flying. The padded surface of the board also extends the life of weighted chessmen. The board can be rolled-up to fit inside a chess bag, or it can be folded and stashed in a back pack without keeping a crease. The board arrives folded and may have creases upon arrival. These creases will relax within a few days if left out on a flat surface. May require a heavy book to accelerate the flattening process. Once the creases come out from original manufacturer's packaging, the board will lie flat without creases.

Unique idea for mousepad

I received this item as a free sample from WE Games, here is my honest review: I found myself using this item more as a mousepad rather than a tournament chess board. The large 20” x 20” area makes it hard to fit on most desks, but for my set up it worked well. I prefer a lower sensitivity on my mouse, so the size makes it perfect for that. As far as quality and price, I would say it is on par with most office / gaming mousepads from larger brands. Personally, I am not crazy on the design, but if you are a true chess enthusiast, and you can find a way to use both for work and chess play, then this probably makes a lot of sense.

Squares aren't 2.25"

I ordered the green color. I find that color to be too bright and garish, but that's just a personal preference. I love how the board folds or rolls up easily and yet always lays flat when laid on the table.
My only issue is that the squares aren't really 2.25" square. Even if you are generous in counting the way too broad dividing lines into account, they are at best, 2.125" square. This makes my normal sized Staunton tournament-style pieces look "crowded" on the squares.

I ordered 2 of those. One is so wrinkled...

One if so wrinkled that it's not usable. I can't upload a picture,... The other one is perfect. So, I paid effectively $30 for one! While the Bobby Fisher version of the same was $20 for one...

Vibrant colors and no crease memory.

These mousepad chessboards are perfect for traveling to play at any location. I've obtained them in 4 vibrant colors, Green, Blue, Purple and Red and they don't have any crease memory and fold flat each and every time. Easy to clean and not thick at all. A pleasure to play with plastic or wood chess sets.
